So this post is going to be geared around asking a question that I’ve had for After Effects for quite awhile.  How do you make 3d text in Adobe After Effects.  Making 3d text has always been something that I’ve always wanted to do.  So I set out to find out how to do it.  There are some free resources here that answer this question so hopefully you can use it.

As a side note there are free ways and paid ways to do it.  There is the “old school” free way of doing it.  Adobe has a tutorial video on the subject.  Click here to view the tutorial.

Here is a tutorial from Creative Cow on making a true, 3d environment in After Effects.  Really cool to watch.

There is also one of the famous plugins called, “3D Invigorator.”  That does the same thing, but it costs some money.  Click here to check out the vender website for 3d Invigorator. Zaxwerks has some cool plugins.  But this is the easiest way to achieve 3d.

So it pretty well possible to not have to learn 3D Max just yet.  Maybe After Effects can be your one stop shop for your 3d compositing needs.  Just have a good video card or rendering will take all night.  :)

Below is a piece from Esteban Diacono called, “Let Yourself Feel.” This is done with Trapcode Particular 2 Plugin.  I have to say this was one of the most intricate After Effects projects I have ever seen.  But watch for yourself.

As you can see, the music and the effects work together extremely well.  Words really can’t express it until you see it for yourself. Here is his demo reel for some of the other work he has done.

For years I was primarily a Photoshop nut,  I learned about layers, masks, brushes, and all kinds of other stuff.  Then I had a friend introduce me to Adobe After Effects, I kinda viewed it at first as an animated Photoshop, but when I ran into Andrew Kramer’s Video Copilot, and this training program was available.

This is the perfect resource to get started with After Effects learning the basics of this great piece of software.  I would encourage you to check it out and let me know what you think.
